There are a lot of craft beer happenings on the FL Gulf Coast each week. Ever wish you had a single place to see what is going on? Well, look no further!
I built the Maps & Events page to be a place for people to go to find breweries, distilleries, craft beer bars, and homebrew shops on the FL Gulf Coast as well as any major events they are hosting. The Maps & Events page focuses on the craft beer scene from the Tampa Bay area down to Naples. In that area there are currently 96 breweries with at least 5 more in the works, 11 distilleries, 5 homebrew stores, and countless craft beer-centric bars!
In the map above, by clicking the square in the upper left-hand corner will open up a map legend as well as different categories on the map.
Blue Markers = currently open breweries
Red Markers = breweries in the works
Green Markers = distilleries
Purple Markers = craft beer bars (not exhaustive)
Grey Markers = homebrew stores
The split between Tampa Bay and SWFL is the Port Charlotte area. Each of these categories is defaulted as "on" so that the map shows everything listed above. But, the categories can be turned off by un-checking the box next to the category. So, if you only want to see the breweries in the Tampa Bay area then you can un-check all the other boxes and only the Tampa Bay breweries will be visible. This helps to de-clutter the map if you are only interested in a certain category.
I do my absolute best to keep this map up-to-date but if you see a location that has recently closed or know of a location that is opening but not on the map please let me know!
The map is relatively easy to maintain as there aren't a ton of openings and closings to keep up with. The events page, however, is a weekly and time consuming update! As I pointed out in the opening paragraph, there are over 100 locations on this map (not counting craft beer bars)!
Every Monday evening I sit down for an hour or two and scan through EVERY brewery, distillery, and homebrew store's Facebook page to check out upcoming events they have posted. I've devised a way to link Facebook events that I'm "going" to to a Google Calendar. I began doing this map and events page while living in Bonita Springs and only focused on those 15-20 breweries. So at that time I was able to manually add events to my Google Calendar but now that would take me FOREVER! So now all I have to do is say I'm going to an event on Facebook and it automatically adds it to my Google Calendar. The calendar is then embedded on my blog and so it automatically updates my website calendar as well! You may see that I am personally going to hundreds of events on Facebook. When you see this, you know I've been working hard to update the events page!
There is also a feature on an event page to "add to page". This feature allows you to add events to a Facebook page that you manage (not your personal page). So, I'm also able to add these same events directly to the events page of The Craft Beer Social. Events can then be seen on both my blog calendar and Facebook page.
I am selective in which events I add to the calendar or else it would simply be too cluttered. So, I have a few major events that make the calendar:
I don't add weekly, repetitive events like trivia, music, or food trucks. This calendar is reserved for special, one-off events.
The Tuesday after adding events to my calendar I make a Facebook post of the major events for the upcoming week/weekend and tag the events and breweries. I will occasionally share big individual events as well.
If you know of any big events going on that I have missed, please let me know so I can add them!
I hope that you enjoy this page and find it useful as you navigate the FL Gulf Coast in search of fun and great beer!
