Follow the journey
Few people are aware but at the end of this month I will be relocating to St. Petersburg, FL for a new full-time job opportunity. Currently, I teach middle school math and science as my full-time gig and tend bar at Momentum Brewhouse a couple days a week on the side. Though I will not be teaching full-time after this school year or tending bar anymore, I will be continuing building The Craft Beer Social! I am moving to the Tampa Bay Area with my girlfriend who has accepted a full-time accounting job that will start in September and so I began my job search soon after. It didn't take long to get a couple of job offers. After about three months of searching I landed a job that I am more than excited to start as I will be transitioning into the engineering field. My new job will begin on May 31st so I will lose my teacher's summer vacation but will be gaining not only a great new career but also direct access to a new craft beer community.
It's been an amazing year in the Ft. Myers-Naples, FL area as I've built my website and social media accounts. The amount of support I've garnered from the local craft beer scene has been nothing short of amazing. Their inclusiveness and assistance toward each other is what I love most about this craft community. I have been welcomed into this shared passion with open arms. I love doing everything I can to promote and support these craft beer businesses. I will be forever grateful to them, especially Momentum Brewhouse for giving me my first experience in the craft beer industry. I first started working there in March of 2015 and my time there has greatly expanded my craft beer knowledge and passion. It's hard to believe that I only have two shifts left.. so help me make them memorable ones and come out for a beer or five on Thursday, May 18th and Thursday, May 25th!
With 13 breweries (4 more in the works) and 3 distilleries in the area, there is still much to write about! Though I am moving out of the area, I will not discontinue my support and coverage of Southwest Florida. I still have a lot of milestones I wish to accomplish and I plan to make the SWFL craft brewery scene the focal point of those milestones. The Ft. Myers-Naples area is the home of The Craft Beer Social and so it shall remain!
I do not anticipate taking on a bar tending job after my move as I have many plans that will need all the free time I can get my hands on. I plan to earn an MBA, perfect my home brewing techniques, and stay physically active (wrestling, lifting, sports leagues, etc). On top of all of that, I also will be continuing to grow The Craft Beer Social!
According to TampaBayBreweries.com there are 85 breweries currently operating with 13 more in the process of opening their doors! Now, that does cover a region from Sarasota, north to Spring Hill, and west to Winter Haven. While I will write about the craft beer happenings in the Tampa Bay area, I plan to start my up my Master's of Craft series here in SWFL.
Master's of Craft will be my YouTube documentary series that will include short episodes that go behind the scenes of local breweries. I plan to cover all/most of the breweries in SWFL before expanding the series to the Tampa Bay area.
I am very excited for my move and excited to expand the reach of The Craft Beer Social but I will not forget where TCBS got its start. SWFL will always play a big role in the progress of my craft beer venture.
Thank you all for the support.
