Less than 5 years after Brian and Kate Hahn established Bonita Springs' first (and currently only) brewery with Momentum Brewhouse they are on the move! But fear not as they are staying true to their roots and remaining in Bonita Springs, just a few miles from their original location. Today (May 1st, 2019) will be their opening day at the new address! You can check out opening day details HERE.
Momentum Brewhouse opened its doors in November of 2014 at a former DeLorean dealership on Bonita Beach Road. The 3,200 square-foot location was the perfect spot to call home as it was on a very busy road nestled right between I-75 and the beach. The 5 bbl brewhouse hosted 40 bbl of fermentation capacity and 8 taps to quench the thirsts of their patrons.
I had the pleasure of joining their beer server crew around March of 2015 and enjoyed every bit of those two years before moving to Tampa. The growth I witnessed in those first two years of their operation were insane! By the time I left they had doubled their fermentation capacity, added 4 more taps, and were already scouting larger locations within Bonita Springs for a possible move.
When doubling the fermentation capacity they had to cut into the space available for guests in the back area. Their popularity had exploded among the locals and vacationers but parking was always an issue. There were only about a dozen paved parking spots available so people began overflowing into the empty (mostly sand) lot adjacent to the brewery. I recall a number of nights pushing cars out of that lot because they got stuck in the sand. But this will not be an issue at the new brewery as they will have what will seem like endless amounts of parking available (oh how easy the crew will have it now)!
With fermentation capacity, occupancy capacity, and parking all maxed out it was time to make a move to a larger facility. While there were a few locations around Bonita Springs that were available, none seemed to be the right fit for Momentum. Finally, just down the road from their original location some land was being developed for commercial use. This was it!
This new commercial space would move the brewery just 3 miles east down Bonita Beach road and place it just off I-75. Momentum Brewhouse will take 3 adjacent units in the SouthLinks Commons, a commercial space being developed by McGarvey Development Co.’s. The 26-acre commercial park is off Hunters Ridge Boulevard in Bonita Springs and will host eight-buildings
The new space for Momentum Brewhouse will be a staggering 10,000 square-feet with the tasting room space being as large as their entire original location! This will leave around 6,000 square-feet available for the brewery. Though their brewing space will expand dramatically there are no immediate plans to fill it out with more equipment. Brian says there is still more brewing capacity on their 5 bbl system but they now have plenty of room to grow into their new facility when the market demands they do so.
Momentum will keep their trademark modern industrial interior design with a sleek wood-topped bar and tables, steel chairs, and incandescent light bulbs.
The original location had 12 beers on tap with one of them being available for experimental beers. The new brewery will be home to at least 24 taps! They will keep their core beers on tap but will now have more room for more experimental beers or for their over 100 other recipes. In today's craft beer culture people like variety and Momentum certainly won't disappoint.
I'm very excited for Brian and Kate as well as the rest of the Momentum crew! I made a lot of great friends at the original location between co-workers and our regulars so a part of me is sad to see it go. But you can't grow without change. I look forward to checking out the new spot as soon as I can!
