Online Certifications ($)
These certifications are becoming the norm in the craft beer industry and most all of them can be completed entirely online (a few may require some in-class courses/tests for upper-level certifications). Some are quite basic and inexpensive (Beer 101) while others can be very in-depth and expensive (Cicerone & ABG). A lot of breweries now prefer or even require that applicants have one of these certifications for any position from serving to brewing.
Online Courses (Free)
There are some online courses that can be accessed for free and provide a wealth of knowledge on the brewing process, ingredients, beer styles, and many other aspects of craft beer. These courses are great for home brewers wanting a deeper knowledge of the craft.
University (Professional Certificate)
University programs are on the rise with the increasing need of educated brewers. A lot of new programs can be completed either online, in-class, or a combination of both. Professional Certificate programs do not earn college credits and can cost between $5,000 & $15,000
There are a few universities that offer degrees in the craft beer industry usually in Fermentation Science or they focus on the business end of craft beer
